The first day of school for students in grades 1-6 and all instructional classrooms is Monday, August 17, 2026. The first day of school for kindergarten students will be Monday, August 24, 2026. On the first day of school, students will line up on the blacktop near the front doors with their classroom teacher. Teachers will be arranged by grade level and will hold a sign with their grade, name, and room number. In case of rain, students will enter through the front doors and teachers will be inside standing near their classroom. If your child has difficulty finding his/her teacher, a staff member holding a balloon will help find the correct location. We will make sure every student is welcomed and knows where to go! After the first day of school, all students will enter the building through the front doors.
It is important to notify the school office, as well as your child’s teacher, of permanent childcare arrangements. We want to have a clear understanding of where our students are going at the end of the day to help ensure their safety. We ask that you share this information in writing before the first day of school, and update us if your childcare arrangements change throughout the school year.
Busing
If your child is eligible for busing, the District 54 Transportation Department will mail your child’s bus pass to your home before school begins. If your child rides the bus to and from school, please note the following procedures:
All students riding the bus are required to show their bus pass upon boarding. A replacement can be obtained in the main office if a student loses their bus pass.
If your child is assigned a bus, they will be expected to ride at the end of each school day to ensure their safe arrival home. Any changes must have prior approval from a parent or guardian.
Arrival and Dismissal
Please review the following procedures that have been established to help. Student safety is our primary concern during the busy arrival and dismissal times:
There is no adult supervision prior to the 8:25am bell. Therefore, students should arrive at school no earlier than 8:25am.
At arrival and dismissal, families can park along Kingsdale Road or Blair Lane. When parking on the side of the street, please do not block our neighbors' driveways. We encourage families to use the crosswalk to safely cross the street, and follow all signs posted by the village.
When buses are present, the Armstrong parking lot is closed from 8:20-8:40am and 2:55-3:10pm. During this time, cars are not able to enter or exit the parking lot, and vehicles must remain parked until the buses leave the parking lot.
Student safety is our top concern. By following all posted signs and driving regulations we can keep our students safe and help you avoid unnecessary tickets. The police do patrol our area and they do issue tickets. We appreciate your attention to these safety procedures.
