Schaumburg Parent University – January Classes
Schaumburg Parent University (SPU) is designed to involve more parents in the life of the school, to strengthen family relationships, and to improve parenting skills that will ultimately result in improved student success academically, socially and emotionally. There are two evening programs scheduled for January.
- Concussion Prevention and Treatment. Dr. Shaun O’Leary, the head of Northwest Community Hospital’s Neurosciences Center, will speak to a community of parents and athletes about the dangers of concussions. In an hour-long format with a Q & A session to follow, he will discuss the detection, diagnosis and treatment of concussions. This presentation is for adults, as well as children in sixth grade and older. The program is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11, 2018 at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg.
- Making an Herb Garden. This event is for parents and students. Each attendee will be able to choose from seeds such as parsley, cilantro, basil and dill and plant their own garden. All supplies will be provided. The cost is $5 and there is a limit of 30 spaces. This hands-on activity will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 30 at Lakeview School, 615 Lakeview Lane, Hoffman Estates.
