Thank you for turning in your conference preferences!!  You will receive a final confirmation of your child’s conference time on Monday.

If you have time, please go over the math test with your child.  The test then needs to be  signed by you and returned to school on Monday.  Part A of the test is the only part that is graded.  These are mastery skills.  Part B of the test is on skills that are developing, so it is not graded.  Part C is extra credit.

Summer Reading Incentives

Posted June 22nd, 2011 by Derrick Sun

Dear Parents,
It’s so hard to believe this school year is coming to an end and summer break is here!  While summer is a wonderful time off from school to sleep in, enjoy the outdoors and play, it is also a crucial time for maintaining the academic gains from the school year.  One of the largest factors in determining summer loss or gain is whether or not a child reads during the summer.

Students who read as few as 6 books during the summer have a much higher rate of maintaining their reading skills learned during the school year.  Those who read between 10 and 20 books during the summer can actually show summer gains in reading.

Very simply, the more time children spend reading, the higher their reading achievement.

When your child receives their report card, they will also be taking home a suggested summer reading list.  However, most importantly, students who are able to choose their own titles to read at their levels are more likely to enjoy reading and finish a book.

To offer additional summer reading incentive, here are some ways for children to earn freebies just for reading during the summer.  The best part is, your child can participate in as many of these as they would like!
