About Armstrong

Armstrong serves approximately 500 students in kindergarten through sixth grade. We offer a full-day Kindergarten program and are proud to have six instructional special education classrooms.  Armstrong staff works in cohesive teams called Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).  The collaborative core of these teams allows teachers to plan and implement consistent instruction to meet the needs of every child within the grade level, and use data to inform their instructional decisions.

Through the school improvement process, Armstrong continuously strives to improve student achievement in all academic areas and for all students.  We utilize balanced literacy instruction to ensure student growth in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.  Our Go Math program builds on fundamental mathematical concepts to help students solve problems and become mathematically literate.  Armstrong’s PLC teams are well-equipped to challenge students who are ready to move forward, as well as provide additional support for students who need further assistance.  This occurs daily during a structured block of time, called Acceleration, which ensures that students receive targeted instruction in their area of specific need in literacy and math.

Armstrong offers STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) curriculum to all of our students in first through sixth grades.  We also provide Project Lead the Way curriculum for fifth and sixth grade students.  Both areas expose our students to a rich curriculum with a heavy emphasis on science and math.  In addition, all students utilize iPads or Chromebooks to access digital resources to support their leaning.  Students use digital learning resources to collaborate, create, solve problems, explore, and think critically about the world around them.

All students receive an hour of formal instruction in art, music and physical education each week. Students visit the Library Resource Center  for one hour each week to participate in Makerspace activities and check out books. During this time, students identify problems, design solutions, learn coding, collaborate, communicate, and think creatively and critically to learn in innovative ways.

The Armstrong staff and community support the educational success of all students with programs and activities such as PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports), GEMS (Girls Engaged in Math and Science), Math Club, Spanish Club, Field Day, Celebrate Reading and Writing, Battle of the Books, Rocketry Club, Girls on the Run, and Sixth Grade Chorus, among others.

Armstrong has an active PTA (Parent Teacher Association) organization. The PTA provides both academic and social programs, such as Book Fairs, Reading Enrichment, family events such as the Winter Festival Dance, and monthly hot lunches and snack days.
